The village of Saint-Emilion originated in the 8th century where a Breton monk, Emilianus, set his hermitage; soon disciples surrounded him, hence the village

Two A.O.C. (Controlled name of origin) share the territory, Saint-Emilion and Saint-Emilion Grand Cru.
The latter is characterized by the qualitative selection, regularly revised, which is the guarantee of production quality.

The limestone plateau, where the medieval village of Saint-Emilion stands (worth a visit ***), gives robustness, style and elegance to the wines.
These are well-balanced, keep well and are aromatic thanks to the blending of varieties where Merlot dominates but is completed by Cabernet franc.
The vintage dictates how long you should keep the wine. 4 to 8 years are needed before Saint-Emilion develops its full flavour; it needs 6 to 12 years to reach its peak in the great growths that can still improve over 20 years.
