The Libournais area
Libourne is situated at the confluence of the Isle and the Dordogne. As early as the Middle Ages it developed its sea traffic by exporting wines to England, Holland and a few Scandinavian countries.
Towards the middle of the 18th century the Libournais vineyards acquire their prestigious fame through the production of renowned names such as Pomerol, Saint-Emilion, Fronsac…

This area with its rare collection of varied terroirs only produces red wines under various appellations.

Libournais area in Saint-Émilion In the estates surrounding the village of Saint-Emilion, wines appear under two appellations : Saint-Emilion and Saint-Emilion Grand Cru. The latter can also be given the added mention “Grand Cru Classé” or “Premier Grand Cru Classé”.

Around Pomerol, a vineyard dating from the 12th century, we find two appellations: Pomerol and Lalande-de-Pomerol.

North of Saint-Emilion we find Satellites de Saint-Emilion around the villages of Saint-Georges, Puisseguin, Lussac and Montagne that have given their names to appellations.

Finally, we find two wines named « Côtes » under the appellation of Francs Côtes de Bordeaux and Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux, and near Fronsac, on a hill rising 70 metres above the Dordogne, the two appellations of Fronsac and Canon-Fronsac.
