The large and beautiful wine growing area of Graves begins in its northern edge at the « Jalle Blanquefort » north of Bordeaux, and ends just beyond Langon upstream from the Garonne.

The area stretches along the left bank of the Garonne and the splendid Landes pine forest offers a protective boundary on the western side. The antiquity and originality of this designation are reminders of the major part played by the terroir in the quality of Graves wines.

The Graves terroir is exceptional, characterized by a variety of gravel deposits comprising of ochre, white, red and pink quartz and quartzites, jasper, agate jasper, flint and lydiennes... A shimmering and harmonious assortment.

The gravel reflects solar heat perfectly and radiates it over the grapes, thus ensuring better ripening.

In this hilly region, the plateaus enjoy an excellent exposure, with good draining slopes. Within the Pessac-Léognan area, drainage is increased through a great network of small tributaries of the Garonne.

All these features combine to give the very typical Graves wine.

In the Graves area, we find three appellations d’origine contrôlées : the Graves and Pessac-Léognan A.O.C. which produce reds and dry whites, and the Graves Supérieures A.O.C. for medium-sweet white wines.
