Entre-Deux-Mers area
Old villages, windmills, pigeon lofts, country houses, churches, abbeys and fortified towns are scattered through this area rich in historic and archaeological heritage.
Several appellations come from the various soils of this hilly area they sometimes call « Périgord girondin », situated between two “mers” (although they are rivers rather than seas), the Garonne and the Dordogne, hence its name.

In these parts, the Entre-Deux-Mers appellation area does not correspond exactly to the geographic zone since several appellations hail from the region.

Entre-Deux-Mers AOC is the most typical and has the largest production. Graves de Vayres stands on the gravelly plateau in the north west, while Sainte-Foy-Bordeaux is the appellation in the north east, close to the Dordogne département.

In the south, along the Garonne, the Premières Côtes de Bordeaux area leads to Pays de Benauge wines and Côtes de Bordeaux Saint-Macaire.
