This region extends east of the Premières Côtes de Bordeaux and close to the liquoreux wines ; mostly it produces sweet white wines sold under the Côtes de Bordeaux-Saint-Macaire appellation.

The red wines from this appellation area receive the names of Bordeaux A.O.C. or Bordeaux Supérieur.

Very sweet or medium sweet according to the vintage, they are fine wines but with a robust flavour.
